With similar requirements for requesting an ACT or SAT fee waiver, students can indicate that they qualify for a fee waiver in the "Personal Information" section of the Common App.  

Colleges may also offer fee waivers through various methods including:

Member schools, including many of the top-ranking colleges, must demonstrate that they provide adequate resources to applicants from historically underrepresented populations

  • The Coalition App is specifically designed to increase accessibility, affordability, and graduation rates for all students.

  • Includes a "Locker" tool for 9th-12th graders to store essential documents relevant to their college process. Admission Counselors will not have access to these documents unless included as part of the college application. 

 

  • Invite counselors, teachers, mentors, or family members in the "Collaboration Space" to edit and provide feedback on your documents.

Cost:

Application fee: $70 per campus

 

Fee Waivers:

Based on the information provided on the application, students can view the "Submit Application Tab" and check the link for "Check My Fee Waiver Status" to determine their eligibility for an application fee waiver

Only California residents are eligible for fee waivers. Students can use fee waivers for up to four campuses. Each additional campus will be $70.

California

Cal State Apply

23 Campuses - One Application

"The Nation's Largest

4-Year Public University" 

  • 95% of Cal State students are California residents; however, all students are welcome to apply.

  • Cal Grantsstate-based financial aid for California residents, can be used at any Cal State University, University of California, California Community College, or qualifying technical or career school. The recommended deadline to submit a Cal Grants application is March 2nd. 

  • California Dream Act Application for eligible undocumented students, click here.

 

  • California residents whose total family income generates an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) below $1,500, click here.

 

UC application
Cost:

Application fee: $70 per campus

 

Fee Waivers:

Students can enter their family size and income in the "About You" section of the application. They will be automatically notified if they qualify for a fee waiver when selecting their desired campuses.

Students can use fee waivers for up to four campuses. Each additional campus will cost $70.

California

Nine Campuses - One Application

  •  Letters of Recommendation are not required. Exam Requirements are suspended until 2024!

  • 90% of UC students are California residents; however, all students are welcome to apply. ​Information for residents, click here.

  • Cal Grantsstate-based financial aid for California residents, can be used at any Cal State University, University of California, California Community College, or qualifying technical or career school. The recommended deadline to submit a Cal Grants application is March 2nd.

Rutgers Application

Application fee: $70 

 

Fee Waivers:

Students who participate in the National School Lunch Program will qualify for a fee waiver. The following fee waivers are also accepted:

  • EOF (Educational Opportunity Fund)

  • NACAC (National Association for College Admission Counseling)

New Jersey

  •  Letters of Recommendation are not required.

 

  • Educational Opportunity Fund offers state and institutional grants, along with academic support.

  • HESAA (Higher Education Student Assistance Authority) manages state-based financial aid for New Jersey residents. Students must create an NJFAMS account and follow the necessary steps for grant eligibility.

New York

The State of New York waives the fee for up to 7 schools for eligible students who demonstrate financial hardship.

High school counselors provide CUNY fee waivers for students who experience financial hardship. One fee waiver can be used for up to 6 schools.

Penn State will waive the application fee for students who apply directly to their website (admissions.psu.edu) and follow the steps listed here.

Pennsylvania

Application fee: varies by institution and can be as much as $75.

Fee Waivers:

Before selecting the 'request for fee exemption' option on the ApplyTexas payment page, you will be responsible for confirming with each university that you qualify for a fee waiver. 
You will need to provide documents to support your claim.
